Mame Arcade cabinet project? I built an arcade machine to specifically run mame (loads of classic arcade games). Thing is, it's got to go! need the room! Basically it's a hand built upright arcade machine, stained in teak with gold dragons down each side. 2 player with happ compatition joysticks and six buttons each, ideal for street fighter games. Has a selection of other buttons including 1 and 2 player start, credit, pause, exit, shutdown... This is an ideal starter if you want your own arcade machine. All the wiring is complete to all buttons along with pcb controler which plugs into usb on pc, marquee light and speakers are there. Just needs a pc in it and a 21" or above tv or monitor, and 1 more support beam. i'm letting it go for £100 but needs collecting as is heavy as hell! So not really a question as such, but thought i'd ask before it goes on ebay in about a week.
Want to convert arcade cabinet to MAME? Hello all. I have a full size arcade cabinet with working controls (although I want to change them) and monitor (has burn-in...will probably upgrade). I'd like some help on how to go about converting to MAME. I'm going to gut the insides and install a computer. I currently have a horizontal monitor, but may like to install a rotating one. I sure could use some help from the experts. I'm not very mechanical, but do know my way around a computer. I would like to play all of the old games, including, Galaga, Pac Man, Dragon's Lair, etc. I have heard that playing vertical screen games (such as Galaga and Pac Man) on horizontal screens make them look squished. Anyway, I live in Louisville, KY and would enjoy any input you may have. Thanks!!

Arcade Machine using MAME as main software? i was wondering if i could make my P3 cpu into an arcade machine using the MAME software, i am currently researching on how to make an Arcade Cabinet. just wanted to know if the feeling is still the same even though it runs on a computer. mame arcade setup? can anyone give any advice on how or what type of computer is compatable with the front ends for the roms? I plan to put this in an arcade cabinet with an tv monitor with an s-video on the back. In addition to the two player joysticks, I also want to have a trackball, a spinner, and 1 joystick mounted sideways for the game Q-bert. Is there a restrictor plate that I can use for Q-bert, so that I don't have to mount an extra joystick just for that one game? I am a newbie to the mame type of arcade systems. Websites that have good illustrations of how to hook up the accessories would be nice to. Thanks in advance

Is a Socket A AMD Duron Processor Compatible with a Socket A Athlon? I am making a MAME arcade cabinet and using a HP computer from around 2001. It has a 850 mhz AMD Duron processor. I am thinking of upgrading it to a AMD Athlon XP 2200+ processor (1.8 ghz.) If it is the same socket will it work? Or are certain motherboards more specific?
How can I build an arcade machine? I am looking to build an arcade machine (such as a MAME cabinet) in my basement. What would be the cheapest way to do this? I am looking for a solution that is ideally under $700.
Where can I buy legal arcade roms for MAME? I've tried searching online, and since Starroms is down, is Ultracade the only way to go? Secondly, if it is, do I have to go the PCB route? I don't know how to install and wire PCBs so I'd like to go the CD route if possible, but I want to do this legally. If there are any sites that let you purchase the roms legally please let me know. I don't want to have 1,000 illegal games on my arcade cabinet. I've tried searching online, and since Starroms is down, is Ultracade the only way to go? Thanks for your answer, Tom, but this isn't what I was asking for. You have to actually purchase the roms themselves or else it's illegal to put them on an arcade machine [and the only arcade CD-Roms I found on Amazon were the 80s [60+ bucks for a game like this?] And the Anniversary disk that only has 12 games.
What is the perfect CPU for running a full Mame Setup? I ordered the wood already cut to build my cabinet, but I want to know what kind of CPU would be the best possible to run mame at full speed and even the larger ones ( Killer Instinct 2, NBA Jam...etc.) Also running all emulator and roms? What kind of monitor is also recommended? I've seen some really good cabinets people have made searching the net, but I want the full Arcade experience.....

Will a newer video card give me better tv out performance? Here the situation... I have an old nvidia 64mb video card in an old computer that I'm going to be using in an arcade cabinet for a mame/ other emulator arcade machine... Only problem is that some emulators show up slightly skewed on the screen using the s-video tv-out on the card... I've tested it on two different brands of tv with the same result. I'm wondering if the tv-out technology has gotten any better over the years.. like maybe if I buy a 512mb or something it might be a bit better. The only reason why I'm using such a weak card if because it handles the games I want to play just fine... thanks ahead of time It doesnt effect the colors at all... just the edges of the screen are curved a bit...
MaLa Frontend for MaMe download issue...? Ive seen some people with this user interface in arcade cabinets on utube and decided to download it. Which emulator would be able to play both Nintendo and Super Nintendo games? I recently build an arcade cabinet and have everything setup. However, I'm having difficulties getting the roms to work. I am using Ubuntu, but can use WINE and bring the retro back to the waiting game. I tried to use MAME, but that didn't work with my NES roms. I'm thinking MAME is just for arcade games themselves. I am mostly interested in playing Nintendo and Super Nintendo games. Does anyone know of an emulator that will play those games? And does anyone know of a Front End GUI that would be able to use that emulator? Note: I found what I was looking for. www.maximusarcade.com. It's not free, but it's a Windows front end that links to emulators for just about every platform. 30 day trial and then $25.
Which File Comparison Tool will ignore extensions? I have a LOT of MAME roms, and the full collection of snapshots, cabinet pictures, etc. I have reduced the 8,500+ total down to just a few hundred games to install in a kid's (2/3 scale) classic arcade cabinet. I would like to copy just those image files that correspond to the games that I've chosen. All the images have the same filename as the roms. I've tried using Total Commander's 'Compare Files' function, but it's unable to ignore the extensions. Do you know of a tool that will let me achieve this? I discovered an excellent tool called ROMLister, which is a data mining tool that allows you to get a list of all the games that will play on your machine. Saves in many list formats, including HyperSpin XML, which is what I'll be using. RL also lets you create batch files that, when executed in the folder where the media is, copy all the artwork/videos/etc. for only the ROMs you selected in your list to your MAME folder. You can even move the roms on your list to a separate folder, for installation in the cabinet for example. http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/ I guess I pretty much answered my own question, but I'm going to leave it up because it's such a find! Recommending HyperSpin for a front end also! http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/downloads.php?do=cat&id=1
