What can we do to battle video game addiction? It's been like an epidemic for years--ever since the invention of the coin-operated arcade game. With the advent of home-console systems like the NES, the SNES, the Neo-Geo, the Playstation, the PS2, the Wii, the PS3, and even the smaller hand-helds--video game addiction has become a problematic effigy for society. It's impact has especially been felt in the on-line gaming communities; whereas whole, productive people have been turned into mindless drones and robots. While myself, I am by no means prone to video game addiction--as I have 3 game consoles (SNES, Playstation, and the PS2), and a Gameboy Advance--I've managed to tame my demons by not playing as much offline and online. As a writer, I am more focused on my writing than my gaming. But I am also a social person by design--and I get out often; taking walks, exercising, and knowing when and where my limits are. Unfortunately, there are those out there who are not like me. There are people out there who *suffer* from addiction--and their personal and professional lives are severely impacted because of it. And while it may seem sensible to take *away* their source of addiction, it doesn't stop the problem overall. So what can we DO to help combat this problem successfully--and in a constructive and positive way?

I am trying to play "Red Baron Arcade" on my PC and I got a FATAL ERROR message about vertex and pixel shader. Xbox problems? I recently borrowed three games( Battlefield: Bad Company, Ninja gaiden 2, and enemy territory: Quake Wars) from my friend and have been playing them from a day or two now. Today, however, while playing Call of Duty 4 online, very thin vertical black lines suddenly sprang onto my screen. At first I thought it might have been the TV or some small malfunctioning device, so I unplugged everything and played again. Again it happened, and I tested all my games and it does it ith everyone. Some games have color distortion as well. This problem doesn't seem to happen on teh dashboard or with arcade games. Also, if this little knonwledge will help in explaining or helping me with my problem; I have the xbox 360 elite with 120 G harddrive and I got it brand new from the store around January of '07. I have a best buy warranty, but i would rather not go through that hassle. I tihnk it might have been triggered by one of the new games put into the machine and all 3 required a update. What is wrong I don't use Hi-def settings or TV and I checked all the cables and discs. It doesn't seem to be any of them. It must be something internal.

XBOX 360 Live? 3 Months ago I bought and XBOX 360 Arcade. All the games I have played are great and I want to go online so I can play multi-player. At the moment I have cable internet but I also own a wireless router (in another room). The cable guy said he could not splice the cable line into the XBOX and that I'd need to use the wireless connection- (he had no idea how to do this). Should I confront her? *long*? Hi sorry this is really long I've tried making it shorter <=) So I've got 2 "best friend" Jamie and Natalie. Jamie's been my friend for a while but instantly got close with Natalie last year when she came but she's still considered me as a best friend but Natalie and her have always been doing things outside of school without me, not having the decency to call and invite me. So the week before summer started I really started talking with Jamie but she had her mobile taken away and no one barely picks up her land line and of course she can't call me... She recently got into some serious trouble and the first person she calls? Natalie. Natalie filled me in on what happened and said Jamie wasn't allowed to use her phone or laptop or go out. She said that she's going over to Jamie's and that she would call on her mobile so I could speak to Jamie. Natalie said she was going over the same night but called me the next day. I'm moving btw like we're packing up furniture so my parents can't really drive me anywhere. It's been a little more than a week since the Jamie thing happened and I've only spoken to her once because no one ever picked up the phone when I called and I was told she wasn't allowed to call anyone. Natalie has barely been online meaning she's been hanging out with Jamie but when I ask her she just says that she's not interested in msn but the next day she'd be on all day. As in she's lying :) So on Friday she puts up pictures of her hanging out with Jamie and there's one in an arcade (in a MALL). Then she asks me on Saturday about when me and her went to the same arcade alone. Then she tells me Jamie'll call me tomorrow (the 20th) and I ask her if she's going over so she can call and she tells me she's allowed to use her land line! So now it's the 21st (5 pm my time) and Jamie hasn't called me. I'm really pissed at both of them because haven't made much of an effort to see me and I'm leaving, they've done this ALL year and I've tried pointing it out but I've had it. In this past week I couldn't have gone anywhere but that doesn't mean they can't call right? They just kept me happy thinking she wasn't allowed but she was. So I want to call Jamie and basically just tell her everything, does it sound like a good idea? What should I tell her when I do call? How to open a business in Columbia, SC? I am completely serious.? I heard that the area i am at does not have a roller rink, this means in-line skaters don't have a place to skate. Does anyone in Yahoo answers that lives in the Columbia, SC area think that there is a market for a roller skate rink that would include a small concession stand with eating area, arcade with pool tables, various console games, WiFi for laptops, Some computer consoles to play World of War-craft and other online games for a small hourly or daily fee. Additionally maybe I can include an area for BMX stunt bikers, and skate boarders as well that would be separate from the in-line skaters/roller skaters area. I was thinking of sole proprietor, or perhaps going as an LLC. because I doubt I would get enough business to expand into needing a switch to being Incorporated. I would probably pursue being Incorporated unless I was or am going to open at least 4 locations to do this stuff. I want to start with 1 location and if support is there expand as demand dictates. I would be looking to start this venture in Mid-to-late-April 2010 so about the middle of next month when tax season is finishing up. Which system should I get, the PS3 or the Xbox 360? I'm a huge gamer and this question is eating me up inside. I don't want to get one system then wish I had bought the other. The xbox 360 has the game of the year, Bioshock, Mass effect and Halo 3. But the ps3 has Ratchet and Clank:future:tools of destruction(and i'm a big ratchet and clank fan), resistance:fall of man, heavenly sword, and Drake's fortune. I'm afraid in 2008 or 2009 the ps3 will have a line of terrific games and the 360 won't. I don't care about online so that's one factor not included in my decision. But one BIG factor is the price$$$$.The ps3 is 400 or 500 bucks while the 360 arcade version is 270. So what system should I get.

Why does Comcast dislike gamers? Consider all three of the new consoles, between demos being released weekly, game videos most of which are in hi def (720 or 1080), Downloadable full games, such as burnout and warhawk, with more to come. Xbox live has a huge number of arcade games, PS3 is rapidly growing, and the Wii has been steadily increasing also. Even the PSP, a portable system has full games for download. On top of that PS3 recently received their video rentals, many of which are hi def, and Xbox360 had a huge library of rentals almost from the get-go. I don't think Comcast took gamers into account when it considered the cap that they recently instated. Anybody with a way to measure bandwidth usage and at least one of these consoles, I would be curious to see what the monthly average is for a console owner. Especially if you have roommates who also own computers. Which brings up another point, comcast apparently hates having more than one person using the same line. I can hear it now, a family of four "Sorry joey, it's Suzies turn to get online tonight." Does anyone else get flashbacks to pre-dsl days?

what is the best psp game? I really want one of the 2010 nba games they made this year for the psp. I had nba 09 teh inside last year and it was pretty good. Should you go for it on forth & long in madden? With the launch of madden 09 an ad appeared with john madden complaining about people going for it on 4th down. For years instead of fixing the glitches and bugs that plague the game; ea tiburon always looks to rename a flaw and call it a feature. For example this year features the first sports game that "adapts" to you. This new feature is the result of more than 10 years of complaints that the game's AI simply cheats more on the harder levels like all pro or all madden. Online you will people who refuse to play people who won't punt on 4th down, demanding a strict real life simulation. What I noticed was missing is any admission that the game sometimes resembles a glitchy arcade game rather than real life. How do most of us get on 4th and long so often without being cheesers? 1. game balancing-- the AI code seems set to prevent human leads going into half-time or the end of the game. The cpu players become dynamic--like a linebacker keeping up with your fastest receiver stride for stride. A 2 min. drill and you hear AI robo qb "has been perfect on this drive" no one drops a pass, none sail too high, none batted down, fumbled etc. Meanwhile the cushion your players gives receivers a spaceship could land in. Your o-line allows 3 sacks in a row by letting defenders blast through. If you manage to scramble and throw a pass to an open receiver, you hear "and he just drops it" or "how did he drop that?" 2 or 3 times in a row. So you're winning by 3 with 48 seconds left and they Will end up with the ball back and robo qb to a possible win. A simulation starts with the program not the players. They say if you gained yards on 1-3rd down you wouldn't be on 4th dwn. YEAH!!! so fix it? What do you think can be done to resolve the 4th down problem?

Why are today's Street Fighter players so cheesy and poorly-skilled? Anyone want to play a REAL match? I started playing SFII in the arcades as a teenager, and my brother and I developed a certain code of honor among those we played with. We actually tried to, you know, PLAY. We used all the different moves at our disposal, tried to come up with cool combos. Once in a while, we'd play some bozo who's only marketable skill as a player was to go: jab jab jab THROW... jab jab jab THROW Or a Ryu/Ken player who only knew a single strategy: Fireball! Dragon Punch! Fireball! Dragon Punch! ... we had total disdain for these players, and would usually just walk away from the machine if they tried to play us. It's not even really playing! It's just total cheese. I mean, how much satisfaction can one really get from beating 100 people in a row using nothing but E. Honda's flying headbutt?? Boooo-ooo-ring. And now, lo and behold, I get the PS3 and SSF2 Turbo HD Remix... and I'm SO excited to play all the fun and skillful players online... but NOPE! EVERYONE online is like that weasely little schmuck my brother and I used to walk away from. Literally. 9 out of 10 people I try to play online simple use the same patterns over and over and over and over and over again, showing no skill or diversity whatsoever. It's so booooooring. I just play really aggressively and once I break into their pattern, they have no clue what to do with themselves. What??! I can't do my pre-memorized cheeseball combo repeatedly?? What on Earth do I do with myself, then?? And when I DO lose, I don't feel like I've been really shown a thing or two. I mean, here I am, fighting with all my best combos, using all sorts of interesting moves and strategies, and some random dude beats me by going: jabjabjab... THROW. jabjabjab... THROW. Well, ok. I'm moving btw like we're packing up furniture so my parents can't really drive me anywhere. It's been a little more than a week since the Jamie thing happened and I've only spoken to her once because no one ever picked up the phone when I called and I was told she wasn't allowed to call anyone. Natalie has barely been online meaning she's been hanging out with Jamie but when I ask her she just says that she's not interested in msn but the next day she'd be on all day. As in she's lying :) So on Friday she puts up pictures of her hanging out with Jamie and there's one in an arcade (in a MALL). Then she asks me on Saturday about when me and her went to the same arcade alone. Then she tells me Jamie'll call me tomorrow (the 20th) and I ask her if she's going over so she can call and she tells me she's allowed to use her land line! And she hasn't called me ONCE. So now it's the 21st (5 pm my time) and Jamie hasn't called me. I'm really pissed at both of them because haven't made much of an effort to see me and I'm leaving, they've done this ALL year and I've tried pointing it out but I've had it. In this past week I couldn't have gone anywhere but that doesn't mean they can't call right? They just kept me happy thinking she wasn't allowed but she was. So I want to call Jamie and basically just tell her everything, does it sound like a good idea? What should I tell her when I do call? For years instead of fixing the glitches and bugs that plague the game; ea tiburon always looks to rename a flaw and call it a feature. For example this year features the first sports game that "adapts" to you. This new feature is the result of more than 10 years of complaints that the game's AI simply cheats more on the harder levels like all pro or all madden. Online you will people who refuse to play people who won't punt on 4th down, demanding a strict real life simulation. What I noticed was missing is any admission that the game sometimes resembles a glitchy arcade game rather than real life. How do most of us get on 4th and long so often without being cheesers? 1. game balancing-- the AI code seems set to prevent human leads going into half-time or the end of the game. The cpu players become dynamic--like a linebacker keeping up with your fastest receiver stride for stride. A 2 min. drill and you hear AI robo qb "has been perfect on this drive" no one drops a pass, none sail too high, none batted down, fumbled etc. Meanwhile the cushion your players gives receivers a spaceship could land in. Your o-line allows 3 sacks in a row by letting defenders blast through. If you manage to scramble and throw a pass to an open receiver, you hear "and he just drops it" or "how did he drop that?" 2 or 3 times in a row. So you're winning by 3 with 48 seconds left and they Will end up with the ball back and robo qb to a possible win. A simulation starts with the program not the players. They say if you gained yards on 1-3rd down you wouldn't be on 4th dwn. YEAH!!! so fix it? What do you think can be done to resolve the 4th down problem?
