How do Nintendo Wii games save?

I rented the game High School Musical 3 Dance from the video store, and I saved my game I've been playing. So is the saved game on the actual disc or is it on the wii? Like if I bought the actual game, if I put the new disc into my wii, would my saved game be there because of it being saved to the wii? Or will by game be on the disc and some other kid will play it if they rent the same game?

  1. Your saved game should be on the Wii, because the Wii uses a flash drive to save game data. It would take up too much hardware to save games onto discs.
  2. DVD's are a real-only medium, so data cannot be saved from the Wii onto the disks. They are stored in system memory. So if you rent a game, save it in progress and return it. Then buy the game later, you'll continue the game from where you left off.
